HKUST and HKPC Partner to Advance Green Tech and Environmental Sustainability

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Productivity Council Signed MoU to jointly strengthen innovative technology development in carbon neutrality, environmental management and sustainability.

The Sustainability/ Net-Zero Office is delighted to announce that the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 10 December 2025, reaffirming their commitment to accelerate Hong Kong’s transition to a greener, smarter and more sustainable future.

Key highlights how HKUST and HKPC will collaborate going forward

  • Identify areas of mutual challenges to solicit proposals from the industry, government and academic research;
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and collaboration between the industry and HKUST Sustainability/Net-Zero Office on emerging environmental challenges;
  • Jointly evaluate potential solution to the challenges and apply funding for pilot project implementation; and
  • Arrange technology seminar, laboratory visits, open day events etc., to enhance living lab education and research.

 

Witnessed by Mr Yonghai Du, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC and Professor Kar Yan Tam, Vice-President for Administration and Business of HKUST, the MoU was signed by Dr Keith Choy, General Manager of HKPC and Dr Kenneth Leung, Director of Sustainability/Net-Zero Office of HKUST.

Mr Yonghai Du, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC highlights that this collaboration can generate significant synergy by integrating academic expertise with industrial experience, ultimately driving meaningful real-world impact. He stated, “With HKPC’s strong industry connections and HKUST’s academic excellence, we can enhance research prospects and develop competitive pilot projects that transform turn ideas into reality. “

Prof. Kar Yan Tam, Vice-President for Administration and Business of HKUST, emphasized that sustainability in teaching, research, and industry collaboration is a paramount priority for the institution, remarking that “HKUST is delighted for the opportunity to engage with HKPC and its extensive industry network, to drive transformative change and advance sustainability.”

The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone between two parties to have shared commitments and responsibilities to accelerate the transition of Hong Kong to a greener, smarter and more sustainable future.
