Meet New Faces of the Sustainability/Net-Zero Office

The HKUST Sustainability/Net-Zero Office has been growing since its establishment as an independent office last year. The project management team of the Jockey Club Sustainable Campus Consumer Programme who coordinate activities across all eight UGC-funded Universities is now housed within our office with Sing Yip, Michael Lee and Corinne Lam.

In the new academic year, two new members, Teri Tan, Net-Zero Manager and Marcus Leung-Shea, Senior Sustainability Manager (Net-Zero) have also joined us to support the University work towards the sustainability vision.

Teri works on the HKUST Life Cycle Center, sustainable buildings and collaboration with Guangzhou Campus. Prior to joining HKUST, Teri has more than 15 years consultancy experience locally and overseas. She has led the sustainable, smart and wellness engineering design on buildings including HKUST Guangzhou Campus, Yale-NUS College, SMU School of Law, Kai Tak Sports Park, M+ and Hong Kong Palace Museum. Please reach out to her to know more about life cycle thinking and sustainable buildings.

Across the technology landscape, professionals are leaving traditional roles to join climate tech and sustainability-oriented teams. Marcus is tremendously grateful to have this chance to join the Sustainability / Net-Zero Office here at HKUST and be a part of the impressive work that is already underway on our campuses.  This is a “homecoming” for him since he did his MBA at HKUST, and actually launched his IoT start up with a handful of his UST classmates (that’s a story for another time).

He was first exposed to decarbonisation technologies while serving as Head of Product at CLP Innovation where he was in charge of developing smart building, energy management, and EV platform solutions.  His eyes were opened to how fast innovation was moving in this space, but also how much work there was left to driving further adoption of these solutions.

In his net-zero carbon role on the team, he will be focused on investigating and implementing decarbonisation strategies and technologies for HKUST.  He looks forward to exploring both cutting-edge technologies and approaches that shift our decision-making processes and values towards a more sustainable campus. He is also excited about the prospects of working with our students, faculty to continuously build, test, and learn!
