HKUST is dedicated in providing inclusive learning and global equity through innovative learning and outreach. We foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking with cutting-edge programs and AI-enhanced tools, empowering students from diverse backgrounds to succeed in a rapidly evolving world. Beyond our campus, the university actively engage with the local community mentoring different students in their academic journey and bringing quality education to those located in rural areas. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships with institutions worldwide, HKUST cultivates lifelong learners who create meaningful impact.

According to Science Direct, from 2020 to 2024, HKUST published 141 research papers addressing SDG 4.

HKUST Introduces Asia’s First “AI Lecturers” in Class to Promote Teaching Innovation A New Initiative to Foster Cross-Campus Study in HK and Guangzhou 

 

The University aspires for this fresh wave of AI teachers and dynamic teaching method to amplify students' motivation and engagement in their learning process. In the long run, the University aims to develop a personalized AI classroom that considers each student’s interests and preferences, leading the way for a new era of teaching innovation. 

 

HKUST creates 10 “AI Lecturers” from different origins, nationalities, professions and cultural backgrounds using AI-generative tools.

HKUST eLearning Strategy

The University has formulated the HKUST eLearning Strategy to encourage the digital transformation of teaching and learning that is innovative and pedagogically sound. This sustains current best-practices in approaches to e-Learning and digital education, assures the maintenance of HKUST’s academic standards, and upholds the "Unified HKUST-Complementary Campuses umbrella" by enabling cross-campus teaching and learning opportunities, with faculty being encouraged and supported to collaborate and co-supervise students, and students having opportunities to pursue courses offered at HKUST and HKUST (Guangzhou).

HKUST Fosters Partnerships with Institutions from the United Kingdom and Switzerland 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcome visits of two international institutional partners, The University of Manchester from the United Kingdom & Manchester China Forum and Swissnex from Switzerland in early November. These visits underscore HKUST’s dedication to international cooperation and the exchange of knowledge.

HKUST Recruits Top Indonesian Students with Indonesian Government Partnership 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a landmark agreement with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (MoECRT), marking a significant milestone in international education collaboration. Through this partnership, HKUST becomes the first university in Hong Kong to nurture outstanding Indonesian undergraduates under the Indonesia Education Scholarship for Degree Program.  

This partnership with the Indonesian Government exemplifies HKUST’s dedication to open opportunities for talented individuals from all parts of the world, regardless of their socioeconomic circumstances.

HKUST, EdUHK and ECNU Launch Tripartite Alliance to Champion AI and Education Futures 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and East China Normal University (ECNU) have announced a pioneering partnership on August 31 to drive research and development in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within education. The partnership has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing the Artificial Intelligence and Education Futures Alliance.

Setting the Stage: Learning the Art of Technical Theater 

HKUST has pioneered an innovative Technical Theater Arts Course. The Shaw Auditorium-based platform offers budding talents the freedom they need to liberate their artistry and begin pushing creativity’s limitless envelope.

STEM with Them

Partnering with the local charitable organization Project WeCan, 12 HKUST volunteers spent a day mentoring 30 students from HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School. Volunteers led an engaging STEM workshop, teaching the students to construct and program a self-driving car to allow younger students to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills. Additionally, volunteers took the students to watch part of the Underwater Robot Competition on campus, then guided the students on a tour of different university facilities, sharing insights about life at HKUST, motivating the students to unlock their full potential.

Guilin Service Learning 

In January 2024, 14 dedicated HKUST student volunteers embarked on a one-week service-learning trip to Jian-An Primary School in Guilin, China, in collaboration with the Y.L. Yang Foundation. Since 2007, the Y.L. Yang Foundation has implemented learning camps in rural areas in China, opening opportunities for primary school students to learn and receive tutoring while also building meaningful relationships and connections with the local primary school students.

In collaboration with the local charitable organization Project WeCan, volunteers from HKUST Connect joined forces to provide tutorial classes and support to students from HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No.3 Secondary School. This helps level the playing field for those who may be less privileged to not have additional education resources in their preparations.
