Level Up Your Recycling with New Facilities
This summer, HKUST has made significant improvements to our recycling infrastructure by adding new facilities that incorporate smart recycling technology. Our goal is to enhance recycling efforts and encourage positive recycling behaviors within our community.
Through our comprehensive recycling facilities and collaboration with cleaning and recycling contractors, HKUST recycles 17 different categories of waste generated on campus.
In addition to the familiar three-colored recycling bins located throughout campus, we are excited to introduce two new facilities designed to improve waste separation for recycling.
Smart Recycling Bins
With the Green $ App, you can now recycle using the Smart Recycling Bins from the Environmental Protection Department. By recycling through these bins, you can earn Green $, which can be redeemed on the app for exciting rewards!
This reward system is integrated with the Government’s broader Green@Community initiatives, allowing HKUST community members to earn Green $ both on and off campus.
Locations:
Outside LG1 Canteen – Accepts paper, plastic, metal, and glass
Outside Staff Quarter 12 – Accepts paper, plastic, and metal
AI Recycling Bins
To make recycling even more engaging, HKUST has installed two sets of AI Recycling Bins on campus. These innovative bins allow you to recycle paper, plastics, metals, and glass in a fun and convenient way.
Simply approach the AI Recycling Bin, place your recyclables in the designated slot, and the AI cameras will identify the type of recyclable and direct it to the correct compartment. This new addition aims to improve waste separation and streamline the back-end process for our cleaning staff. Remember to clean the items before disposing in the recycling bins.
Locations:
Academic Concourse, 1/F (Outside Lift 17-18)
CYT Building, UG/F (Near Lift 36)
