HKUST Staff Join Forces with Crossroads Foundation for Global Impact

In February this year, a dedicated team of HKUST Impact Makers came together to make a meaningful difference in the community. Partnering with the Crossroads Foundation, a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization, HKUST staff engaged in a heartfelt volunteering initiative aimed at addressing urgent global needs.

The Crossroads Foundation has been delivering vital aid to over 90 countries, transforming lives in some of the world’s most challenging regions. The organization also actively collaborates with the Hong Kong Social Welfare Department and various local NGOs to support individuals and families living in vulnerable circumstances.

This collaboration underscores HKUST’s commitment to global impact Staff members utilized the university's special leave policy to actively participate in this impactful service.

At the heart of the initiative, HKUST staff focused on sorting and packing essential donation materials destined for Malawi, Moldova, and other areas in need. One passionate volunteer shared the impact of their work, stating, "We were able to help the disabled," emphasizing the difference their contributions make for those in need.

Additionally, a group of Impact Makers from the Sustainability/Net-Zero Office participated in volunteering efforts last September, working on corporate-donated computers. They conducted inspections, securely erased storage media, and installed new software, while also assisting in refurbishing appliances. The packed computers and items were sent to support youth in Malawi.

At HKUST, we believe in the power of giving back. This initiative exemplifies the strength of collective action and the role of educational institution in contributing to global humanitarian efforts. By collaborating with organizations like the Crossroads Foundation, we are empowering our staff to connect with and uplift communities around the globe. This aligns with HKUST’s 2028 sustainability goals, which emphasize community engagement and global impact.

Looking ahead, the university is committed to fostering partnerships with NGOs to facilitate future volunteering opportunities. We encourage everyone in the community to stay engaged and watch for upcoming events that will further inspire action and compassion.
