HKUST and Team France Sign Energy Performance Contract to Advance Campus Sustainability
HKUST and Team France, a consortium of two leading building services experts, continue to strengthen a long-standing partnership built on multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) since 2017. The partnership reached a significant milestone on 8 July 2026 with the signing of an Energy Performance Contract (EPC).
Under this EPC, Team France will implement two targeted retrofit projects over the next 24 months :
- Replacement of Fan Coil Unit (FCU) permanent magnet synchronous motors
- Installation of AI touchscreen room controllers
These initiatives are expected to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and foster international innovation collaboration.
A key feature of this EPC is its performance-based financing model. Team France guarantees the resulting utility savings, which will offset the installation costs over a 15-year period. Many organisations aspire to improve building energy efficiency, but the required upfront investment often presents a significant challenge. Through this collaboration, HKUST aims to demonstrate how Energy Performance Contracting can serve as a scalable and replicable model for universities , businesses and public institutions across Hong Kong.
At the same time, HKUST and Team France also signed a Phase 2 MoU to expand their collaboration beyond the initial building, extending the partnership to student residences and other campus facilities.
Together, HKUST and Team France are reinforcing HKUST's sustainability leadership, creating long-term value, and showcasing scalable low-carbon solutions that can benefit the wider Hong Kong community for years to come.
