Exploring Nature and Campus Heritage: Sai Kung Community Members Visit HKUST

On 22 January 2026, members of the Sai Kung District Community Centre visited the HKUST campus for a guided walking tour highlighting the University's natural landscapes, biodiversity features and unique campus environment.

The visit welcomed elderly community members from Sai Kung, providing an opportunity for them to explore HKUST's scenic surroundings while learning about the University's sustainability initiatives and ecological resources. For some participants, it was their first visit to the campus, while others were delighted to revisit familiar locations and discover new stories behind HKUST's landscape and environmental features.

During the tour, participants visited several popular campus destinations that are frequently enjoyed by visitors and community members, including the Butterfly Garden, Community Garden and other scenic spaces. Through guided interpretation, participants learned about the role of these spaces in supporting biodiversity, enhancing environmental awareness and creating opportunities for people to connect with nature.

The activity extended sustainability education beyond the campus community by introducing local residents to the environmental and cultural value of HKUST's campus attractions. It demonstrated how natural assets can enrich visitor experiences, while promoting responsible enjoyment of natural spaces and fostering a greater appreciation of local biodiversity and sustainable landscape management.
